Hello,

a new firmware v1.03 (BETA) is available for download from here:

Cygnos360 V2 Firmware 1.03.zip

This firmware is currently in BETA phase. It should be tested only by advanced users. I will not be linked on our download page, unless it has received several positive tests/remarks.

With this firmware, it's now possible to omit the 330 Ohm resistors in the wiring of the GPU JTAG port. Please note, the resistors may be removed from current installations only after the update to firmware 1.03. Removing these resistors with any firmware before 1.03 may result in permanent damage to the GPU JTAG port.

Here's an updated installation diagram for the new firmware 1.03:

This firmware can be also be tried without changing the GPU JTAG hack wiring at all. Leaving out the resistors not only makes installation faster and easier, it also helps with JTAG hack related problems in rare cases.

A note to all testers: Please give details if the JTAG hack worked before and after the upgrade to firmware v1.03 and if you left out/removed the resistors or not. If you noticed any other negative side effects, please report as well.

Cheers,

Feedback:

As some may or may not know, I've been having an issue with SMC not resetting after having booted Xell and thus needing to pull power after every such boot (per this thread).

I installed v1.03 firmware without any changes to the wiring.  3 RRoD every boot, could not even boot the original NAND image.  Error code 0020 with nothing displayed on the screen.

I then removed the resistors and re-soldered the lines per the new diagram and picture (nice picture Icekiller).  So now I had X6 = No Connect, X1 = J2D2.1, X5 = J2D2.2, J2D2.4 = J2D2.7, and X7 = J2D2.5.  No resistors at all anymore.

Boot Xell, success.  Shutdown
Boot Xell, success again!!!  YAY!.  Shutdown
Boot Xell, success again!!!  YAY!.  Shutdown
Switch NAND to Cygnos, boot Original NAND backup, success!

Everything appears to be working perfectly now.  I no longer have to pull the power cord.

Thank you all.

EDIT: some small typos.

TRaceBack,

What would be the expected behavior of updating to the 1.03 Beta firmware, and not changing the existing wiring at all?

Thanks.

Hi team,

Great work as usual.

my first test :

Update firmware without changing the JTAG Installation on a Xenon 1921 with -removed-.

Result :

The xbox 360 runs, indicates in the Cygnos tool debug window "-removed-. Switch, booting..." But nothing at screen. No error, no Rod, but black screen.

I try tomorrow to update the installation and tell you. I can do the test on a falcon too if you want to.

Good night

Hello SoulHeaven,

thanks for testing! Can you repeat it one more time please? Maybe it was a random hang-up?

It should work as well. This firmware update is supposed to be fully compatible with existing installations.

I can confirm with the new wiring on my system -removed- also works.  Just finished installing that.

Thank you very much I now have a fully working Cygnos360 and no unplugging needed. You gave me Christmas early.  Smiley

Console: Xenon

Flashed firmware 1.03 with original styled wiring.

Works just like it did before.

Able to boot MSDash/Xell/-removed- etc.

EDIT: Tested with new wiring, same again, works just like it did before.

Still able to boot MSDash/Xell/-removed- etc.

2ND EDIT: Is this safe for the gpu, I know its a BETA, but still, the resistors were to protect it?

So for new installations,
Don't worry about resistors and use firmware 1.03?

As above is there any safety concerns?

Hello,

firmware 1.03 will *NOT* damage your GPU JTAG port. It will never drive 3.3V levels into any of the pins. If you leave out the resistors with firmware 1.02, it will drive 3.3V levels into the GPU JTAG port, which is likely to take damage over time. The resistors were there to limit the current flow into any of the GPU JTAG pins. It's common practice to interface a JTAG port with a lower voltage level in this way, but there are certain drawbacks. We noticed, that the low level was around 0.56V (it should be close to 0V) and this was probably the cause for certain JTAG hack problems. Diodes are no better - the forward voltage drop is even higher (depends on the model).

Firmware 1.03 will drive the microcontroller's output pins so they behave like open-collector or open-drain outputs. The necessary pull-ups to 1.9V are already present in the Xbox 360.

Sorry i have a question not sure if i should ask it here. I didn't do the resistors method for my cygnos install i decided to do the diode method from the jtag hack .  which looks a lot like the pin out on the pic you posted give or take like 1 or 2 wires.  Now if i were to upgrade to 1.03 would i run into any trouble? keeping in mind that I did not do the resistor method nor is my method exactly like the one you have on the picture.

Okay, so if I have an Xbox 360 that I've never done the JTAG hack on (but is JTAG compatible) and have not installed the Cygnos360 v2 on - can I use this updated wiring (no resistors) and update the firmware on the Cygnos to 1.03?

Thanks.

@twinbird: Of course you can

@igbeserk: THat wiring have nothing to do with Cygnos 360 anymore, since it is the SMC that is controlling the DMA injection, not Cygnos

Alright, but TRaceBack said "the resistors may be removed from current installations only after the update to firmware 1.03". I have not installed Cygnos360 v2 into my console yet, so would that mean I must install Cygnos with the resistors, update the firmware, then remove the resistors?

Thanks.
